Second Life

Second Life is a series of photographic montages and animated video installation interpreting the history of the inner Sydney suburb of Darlington.

These works contemplate the physical, social and cultural histories of the area. Research includeds work by local historian Shirley Fitzgerald, historical reports commissioned by the University of Sydney, and a series of interviews (available at Newtown Library) with long time local residents detailing personal stories of every-day life up to 80 years ago. These colourful interviews include accounts of the games kids played on the streets, close-knit community relationships, employment at the Eveleigh railway yard and local factories in Chippendale, the local school, and family living arrangements in these tiny inner city terraces.
