Scrambled Video Installation

Expanded021.jpg

Suzy and Adam collaborated on this animated video installation for the Expanded Architecture event held at Carriageworks in 2011.

The piece, Scrambled, is a social commentary on the changes in the Carriageworks and surrounding suburb (Darlington) over the last 100 years. We researched the local area, selected some interesting historical photographs, and brought them to life using animation. We then took video footage of the local area and montaged the animations onto the present day urban fabric.

Interview transcripts sourced from Newtown Library informed a narrative soundtrack, recalling life in the area as a child during the 1930′s and 40′s.

This installation is part of the Second Life photographic montage body of work.

From the Expanded Architecture blog-page:

“As part of the Sydney Architecture Festival, Expanded Architecture 2011 invited proposals for collaborative, site-specific moving image projections and filmic installations. Selected proposals will be part of an exciting one night only exhibition in the inspirational foyer space of CarriageWorks, Sydney on Wednesday October 26 2011.”

From Sarah Breen, curator of Expanded Architecture:

“Your piece was so well created, we were so proud to have it, and you both in the show. - I received excellent feedback on it, people found it great to have a narrative piece to relate to the local area. We think the way you created the animation, combined with the sound bites / transcriptions was really well crafted! You also made the coolest chill out zone! So well done.”
