IGS Design Tech Classrooms

Our design reorganises a once neglected corner of the IGS campus into a mini village of student learning, staff facilities and informal social spaces.

Campus invigoration
In mid 2016 the International Grammar School (IGS) appointed us to design a new Design Centre for their Ultimo campus. We are very excited to have expanded our education portfolio with this terrific little project.

An invigorated laneway forms a circulation spine providing access to the various spaces along it’s length. The lane is populated with seating ledges and work surfaces that encourage students to stick around and informally interact.

Social spaces
At the laneway threshold a series of transparent roller shutters open up deep seating ledges that straddle inside and out. A tall window at the prow of the staff room announced this exciting new precinct in the school and provides an exhibition space for student works to be displayed, played and projected.

Adaptable spaces
The new layout provides adaptable space for teaching and learning modes as well as exhibitions and the cross pollination of ideas. Deep in the plan a delineation between work and service spaces organises the rooms for effective lessons.
